With the founding of Weider Nutrition, the brand becomes the pioneer of an entire fitness movement — and the first sports nutrition brand in the world.

Our history
Joe Weider firmly believed that physical training, a healthy diet, and sufficient rest were the three pillars of a happy and fulfilling life. His vision was clear: help people around the world lead happier, more fulfilling lives by sharing his knowledge of exercise, nutrition, and rest. To put that plan into practice, Joe founded the Weider empire in 1936 — becoming a pioneer of the fitness movement as we know it today.
Joe established himself as the ‘Trainer of Champions,’ with Arnold Schwarzenegger undoubtedly his most famous protégé; the world’s largest bodybuilding competition still bears the name ‘Joe Weider’s Mr. Olympia.’ Today the name WEIDER is synonymous with health, fitness, and bodybuilding — and for over 90 years, Joe’s mission has continued through innovative, effective nutrition of the highest possible quality.

1946
The Weider brothers found the IFBB
Joe and Ben Weider found the International Fitness and BodyBuilding Federation — to this day the global home of bodybuilding.
1965
Joe founds Mr. Olympia
Joe Weider starts the Mr. Olympia contest, which quickly becomes the most prestigious bodybuilding competition in the world.
From 1970
WEIDER® expands internationally
Japan in 1970, WEIDER SL in Madrid in 1986, Taiwan in 2000 — growing into the leading brand in bodybuilding & fitness.
2006
Venice Muscle Beach Hall of Fame
On Labor Day 2006, Arnold Schwarzenegger honors Joe Weider with the Lifetime Achievement Award, citing Weider's influence on his career.
2014
International Sports Hall of Fame
Joe, Ben and Betty Weider are inducted - Joe posthumously - honoring his life's work and enormous influence on the fitness world.
